Can you bill the NIHB program for couples or family therapy?

Updated over 3 months ago

Yes! If a number of family members who are eligible for NIHB coverage are participating in the same session, then the session is to be billed using the group counselling code and rate for each eligible client.

Where counselling is provided to 2 individuals in a group setting (such as a couple, or 2 members of a family), claims for services for each eligible client are reimbursed at a rate equivalent to 50% of the individual counselling rate, as indicated in the Mental Health Counselling Benefit Grids. In cases where only 1 of the 2 participants is NIHB-eligible, only counselling for the NIHB-eligible individual can be billed to the program.
